Day 1: Arrival in Moshi – Pre-climb Briefing

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you’ll be welcomed by a member of the Real Life Adventure Travel team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Relax, settle in, and attend a comprehensive briefing with your mountain guide who will go over the trek details and check your gear. Tomorrow, the adventure begins!

Day 2: Moshi to Londorossi Gate – Trek to Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration, then continue through the rainforest to the trailhead. Begin your trek through lush vegetation and towering trees. Keep your eyes open for colobus monkeys, exotic birds, and forest antelope.
Elevation: 2,100m to 2,650m | Hiking time: ~3-4 hours

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp

The forest thins out as you enter the heath and moorland zone, climbing a ridge with sweeping views toward Shira Plateau. The trail opens into vast plains dotted with giant lobelias and senecios.
Elevation: 2,650m to 3,610m | Hiking time: ~5-6 hours

Day 4: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp

Today’s hike is a gentle walk across the Shira Plateau, offering excellent acclimatization and stunning views of Kibo Peak in the distance. Camp at Shira 2, surrounded by otherworldly alpine terrain.
Elevation: 3,610m to 3,850m | Hiking time: ~4-5 hours

Day 5: Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)

A key acclimatization day. Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m) for lunch and acclimatization before descending to the lush Barranco Valley. This “climb high, sleep low” day helps your body adjust for the summit push.
Elevation: 3,850m to 3,976m (via 4,600m) | Hiking time: ~6-8 hours

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Begin with the fun scramble up the Barranco Wall, a steep but rewarding climb. Then traverse ridges and valleys through dramatic alpine landscapes to Karanga Camp, your resting place before summit night.
Elevation: 3,976m to 3,995m | Hiking time: ~4-5 hours

Day 7: Karanga to Barafu Camp – Christmas Eve at High Camp

Trek steadily toward Barafu Camp, the final base before your summit attempt. Arrive early to rest and prepare. A special Christmas Eve dinner awaits you with warm drinks and team spirit. Head to bed early — summit night begins before midnight.

Day 8: Summit Day (Uhuru Peak) – Down to Mweka Camp

Your most challenging and rewarding day begins in the early hours. Under the stars, ascend steadily to Stella Point and then continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) — the Roof of Africa! Celebrate your achievement with Christmas joy, photos, and the views of a lifetime. After soaking in the summit moment, descend carefully to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
Total hiking time: ~12-15 hours | Elevation gain/loss: 4,673m to 5,895m to 3,100m

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi

Enjoy a final breakfast on the mountain before descending through the lush rainforest. Arrive at Mweka Gate, where your summit certificates will be issued. You’ll then transfer back to your hotel in Moshi to celebrate with a hot shower and a festive post-climb dinner.
