Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a first-time climber, this scenic and highly successful route offers the perfect balance of challenge, beauty, and acclimatization.
Join a festive, international group of adventurers with a shared goal: reaching the summit together in time for an unforgettable New Year sunrise above the clouds.
Pre-Trek Day: December 26, 2025 – Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), where you’ll be met by your Real Life Adventure Travel representative and transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Meet your mountain guide and group during an evening briefing and gear check. Relax and prepare — your adventure starts tomorrow.
Day 1 (Dec 27): Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Depart Moshi after breakfast and drive to Londorossi Gate for registration. Start your hike through the lush, green rainforest zone. Listen for the calls of colobus monkeys and soak in the humid beauty of Kilimanjaro’s lower slopes.
Elevation: 2,100m to 2,650m | Hiking time: 3–4 hours
Day 2 (Dec 28): Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
The forest fades into moorland. Trek up the ridge to the Shira Plateau with panoramic views across to Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro’s Western Breach.
Elevation: 2,650m to 3,610m | Hiking time: 5–6 hours
Day 3 (Dec 29): Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp
A scenic acclimatization day crossing the plateau to Shira 2. Look out for giant groundsels and lobelias while adjusting to higher altitudes.
Elevation: 3,610m to 3,850m | Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Day 4 (Dec 30): Shira 2 to Barranco Camp (via Lava Tower)
Climb high to Lava Tower (4,600m), where you’ll stop for lunch, then descend to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy is crucial for safe acclimatization.
Elevation: 3,850m to 3,976m (via 4,600m) | Hiking time: 6–8 hours
Day 5 (Dec 31 – New Year’s Eve): Barranco to Karanga Camp
Scramble up the famed Barranco Wall, a short but thrilling climb. Traverse the high alpine desert to Karanga Camp, your final camp before the summit push. Spend the evening enjoying a special New Year’s Eve dinner celebration with your team under the stars. Rest early — you’ll welcome the New Year above the clouds.
Elevation: 3,976m to 3,995m | Hiking time: 4–5 hours
Day 6 (Jan 1, 2026 – New Year Summit): Karanga to Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak – Down to Mweka Camp
Start the new year with the ultimate goal: summiting Kilimanjaro! Wake up before midnight for a torch-lit climb to Uhuru Peak, reaching the summit at sunrise — just as 2026 dawns. This once-in-a-lifetime experience is both emotional and awe-inspiring. After celebrating your success, descend to Mweka Camp for your final night on the mountain.
Elevation: 3,995m to 5,895m to 3,100m | Hiking time: 12–15 hours
Day 7 (Jan 2): Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate – Return to Moshi
